Fram Oil Filters

Friction is created when machine parts move in relation to each other. In order to reduce this friction, which causes reduction of efficiency and life of the machine, we need to create a lubricating oil - film between the moving parts.

It is evident that we need lubricating oil , clean of dirt and damaging particles , in the machine.This is where the oil-filter comes in.

Duties of the lube and Fram oil filter.

Apart from lubrication, the oil and oilfilter have also following duties :

• Cooling : absorb and transport heat from the friction and motorheat
• Cleaning : transport (to the filter) the contaminating particles from wear and tear aswell as remainders of the combustion process
• Sealing : the rings between liner and piston ,simmerings etc
  silencing of mechanical noises and the combustion process
  Unless the contaminating particles are adequately removed from the lubrication oil and retained by the oilfilter, they form together with the oil an abbrasive paste which causes premature engine wear.

This leads to major repair costs which is why FRAM uses the slogan 'Pay a little more now , instead of a lot later'.

Types of oilfilters.

The oilpump , driven by the engine , aspires the oil via a sieve (to prevent aspiration of large contaminants)from the carter and pumps it towards all places that need lubrication.

Oilfilters can be designed as 'spin-on filter' or as 'filtercartridge' in a housing. A spin-on filter is replaced completely after its usefull life whereas in the other version only the cartridge needs to be replaced in the housing.
